Anthony Van Nice
Founder, Oregon Custom Winemaking
At Oregon Custom Winemaking, Anthony combines his expertise in winemaking and business strategy to help companies create their own custom wines—delivering quality, authenticity, and market success.
With over 30 years of experience in the wine industry, Anthony brings a deep understanding of both winemaking and winery management. Anthony has played a key role in the development of over 50 wine brands, including several that have achieved explosive growth and are now widely distributed around the world. Anthony’s wines have earned hundreds of 90+ point scores from top industry publications, including Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast, and James Suckling, solidifying his reputation for producing world-class wines that resonate with both critics and consumers.
His career began in wine production, working in world-renowned regions such as Burgundy, Napa Valley, Hunter Valley (Australia), Central Otago (New Zealand), and Oregon’s Willamette Valley. For the past two decades, he has been a senior executive, leading winery start-ups, turnarounds, and growth initiatives. His expertise in strategy, production, and market positioning has helped businesses such as The Four Graces and Solena Estates successfully launch and scale their wine programs.
Anthony’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in a firm belief that quality starts in the vineyards. He emphasizes that if we farm for quality, we don’t need to work as hard in the winery to produce great wine. This approach ensures that every bottle reflects the integrity of the land and the craftsmanship behind it.
He owns a historic vineyard in the Dundee Hills AVA along with Woodshed Wine Company and Real Nice Winemakers, and consults for several leading wineries. He has served on the boards of key industry organizations, including the Willamette Valley Wineries Association, the Dundee Hills Winegrowers Association, and Oregon Pinot Camp.
